Congratulations to all members of the Rector Drew athletics team on winning the St Asaph Diocese Junior Schools Championship for 2011.  It was a real team effort with pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competing and contributing points to our eventual winning total.

All pupils were perfectly behaved during the afternoon and their sportsmanship and team spirit were commented on by parents and teachers alike.  Da iawn pawb.

A huge thank you once again to all parents for your continued help and support – both in transporting the children to the event and your vocal support from the stands.

Congratulations to all pupils who took part in this year’s Flintshire Sports Festival.

A total 20 of girls from Years 5 and 6 entered the friendly football tournament at Deeside College.  The girls were split into 2 squads of 10 – the Rector Drew Ravens and the Rector Drew Red Sox!  Both teams enjoyed mixed success – winning, drawing a losing their friendly fixtures.  The girls thoroughly enjoyed their morning and played with great spirit and enthusiasm.

9 boys from Year 6 travelled to Flint Skate Park for their BMX competition.  Mrs Williams said the boys had a fantastic time and finished in a very creditable 3rd place.  Well done boys!

A huge thank you once again to all parents for help with transport to both venues and your vocal support from the sidelines.  Your continued support  is very much appreciated.

A special mention too for Mrs Anderton, Mrs Pendergast and Mrs Harpin for their help with our fantastic banner.  Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Mountain biking will be starting again this Sunday, 16th January 2011.

After a run of bad weather and postponements we hope to complete at least 4 consecutive sessions and hope as many children as possible can attend.  The sessions will run from 9.30am until 11.00am.

Mr Peers and myself look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Congratulations to the year 5 and year 6 girls that participated in the fantasy netball festival on Friday 15th May. The festival was held at Ysgol Maes Glas in Hollywell and consisted of different schools from within the Flintshire area.

The girls played fantastically and managed to come 2nd in our particular group, just missing out on a place in the semi-finals. The girls played four matches and won one match, drew two and lost the other match.

The girls worked together excellently as a team, which showed during the games that the girls played and they played brilliant netball, putting together all of the skills that they had learned during after school practises. The girls showed great enthusiasm throughout the afternoon. We were lucky that the weather held out and it didn’t rain!

For the fantasy netball tournament, schools were given a team that they had to represent. We were lucky enough to be given the country of Wales. All schools had to make a banner to take with them to the festival, displaying the country that they were representing. I would just like to say that if there was a competition for the school with the best banner then we would definitely have won that competition! The banner that the girls made was absolutely fantastic and they had put in a lot of hard work during the week to get the banner finished. I would like to thank Mrs Williams in year 6 for also helping to produce the banner and for providing the poles and the sewing! Thank you to Miss Hughes too for organising the netball letters for me.

The girls who took part were:    Jenny (year 5), Josie M (year 5), Sophie (year 5), Lydia (year 6), Antonia (year 6), Chloe (year 6), Megan R (year 6), Hannah R (year 6) and Polly (year 6).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Keeling who provided transport to and from the festival and supported the girls during all of the matches. Thank you to Mr Prytherch who also provided transport to and from the festival.

Congratulations girls. I am really proud of all of you. Da iawn!

Miss Williams

On Thursday 15th November we went to St Mary’s to play a cup match after school.  The starting line up was Charlie in goal with Henry and Tom in defence.  James, Dan, Luke and Ross were in midfield with Jonny playing up front.  Liam and Dan T starting as substitutes.

When it kicked off it was a really tight game.  Charlie made some great early saves to keep it at 0-0.  Later on in the half Jonny had a geat shot across goal and the keeper spilled it and Luke tapped it in.  At half time the score was 1-0 to Rector Drew.

Liam and Dan remained ont he bench for the first 5 minutes of the second half.  It was a good start to the half with the away side winning a corner.  James took the corner and it curled straight into the net making it 2-0.  Rector Drew won the ball again and Luke went for goal and nailed it into the net making it 3-0.  Then Liam came on for Tom with Dan T replacing Jonny.  Seconds later the ball broke down the right for Luke.  He ran into the area, shot, and it hit the post and went in.  From the kick off Luke won the ball and took it round a player and shot from outside the area straight into the bottom corner which gave him his hat-trick.  Then Ross won the ball down the left wing and crossed it in and Luke hit it on the volley in the top corner.  Ross won it again down the left and went for glory but it was blocked by a defender but it came back out to Ross and he nailed it into the net.  Luke won the ball again on the edge of the box and he shot and it went into the net for his 5th goal of the game.  The final whistle went so Rector Drew won 7-0.  We all shook hands and gave ‘three cheers’.

Mr Prytherch was really pleased with our performance and our behaviour.
