Congratulations to the year 5 and year 6 girls that participated in the fantasy netball festival on Friday 15th May. The festival was held at Ysgol Maes Glas in Hollywell and consisted of different schools from within the Flintshire area.

The girls played fantastically and managed to come 2nd in our particular group, just missing out on a place in the semi-finals. The girls played four matches and won one match, drew two and lost the other match.

The girls worked together excellently as a team, which showed during the games that the girls played and they played brilliant netball, putting together all of the skills that they had learned during after school practises. The girls showed great enthusiasm throughout the afternoon. We were lucky that the weather held out and it didn’t rain!

For the fantasy netball tournament, schools were given a team that they had to represent. We were lucky enough to be given the country of Wales. All schools had to make a banner to take with them to the festival, displaying the country that they were representing. I would just like to say that if there was a competition for the school with the best banner then we would definitely have won that competition! The banner that the girls made was absolutely fantastic and they had put in a lot of hard work during the week to get the banner finished. I would like to thank Mrs Williams in year 6 for also helping to produce the banner and for providing the poles and the sewing! Thank you to Miss Hughes too for organising the netball letters for me.

The girls who took part were:    Jenny (year 5), Josie M (year 5), Sophie (year 5), Lydia (year 6), Antonia (year 6), Chloe (year 6), Megan R (year 6), Hannah R (year 6) and Polly (year 6).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Keeling who provided transport to and from the festival and supported the girls during all of the matches. Thank you to Mr Prytherch who also provided transport to and from the festival.

Congratulations girls. I am really proud of all of you. Da iawn!

Miss Williams

On Thursday 15th November we went to St Mary’s to play a cup match after school.  The starting line up was Charlie in goal with Henry and Tom in defence.  James, Dan, Luke and Ross were in midfield with Jonny playing up front.  Liam and Dan T starting as substitutes.

When it kicked off it was a really tight game.  Charlie made some great early saves to keep it at 0-0.  Later on in the half Jonny had a geat shot across goal and the keeper spilled it and Luke tapped it in.  At half time the score was 1-0 to Rector Drew.

Liam and Dan remained ont he bench for the first 5 minutes of the second half.  It was a good start to the half with the away side winning a corner.  James took the corner and it curled straight into the net making it 2-0.  Rector Drew won the ball again and Luke went for goal and nailed it into the net making it 3-0.  Then Liam came on for Tom with Dan T replacing Jonny.  Seconds later the ball broke down the right for Luke.  He ran into the area, shot, and it hit the post and went in.  From the kick off Luke won the ball and took it round a player and shot from outside the area straight into the bottom corner which gave him his hat-trick.  Then Ross won the ball down the left wing and crossed it in and Luke hit it on the volley in the top corner.  Ross won it again down the left and went for glory but it was blocked by a defender but it came back out to Ross and he nailed it into the net.  Luke won the ball again on the edge of the box and he shot and it went into the net for his 5th goal of the game.  The final whistle went so Rector Drew won 7-0.  We all shook hands and gave ‘three cheers’.

Mr Prytherch was really pleased with our performance and our behaviour.

On Wednesday 24th October, Venerable Edward Morgan and Saltney Ferry are coming to us to play a mini tournament.  It is instead of training and will last until about 4.30pm.

Any of our normal girls who come to training that night will be given a match.  Fingers crossed we do well. :)

On Thursday 4th October Rector Drew held their first football league match of the season against Saltney Ferry C.P.  The starting line up was: Charlie, Tom, James, Henry, Ross, Luke, Dan W and Jonny.  The substitutes for the first half were Liam and Dan T.

On an extremely hot afternoon Rector Drew won the toss and chose to kick off.  The game kicked off and Rector Drew were straight on the attack and the ball broke to Luke on the edge of the box.  Luke shot and the ball was deflected in by a Saltney defender but Luke claimed the goal.  Not long after Henry got the ball on the edge of the box, he shot and the ball clipped the underside of the bar and went in.  Later in the half Ross broke down the left wing, crossed it in and there was Jonny to volley the ball in to make it 3-0.  At half time the score was 3-0.  Dan T replaced James and Liam came on for Tom in defence.

Not long into the second half and the Saltney keeper spilled a shot to Jonny to make it 4-0.  Later in the half Jonny picked the ball up inside his own half, ran a few yeards and shot from just outside the box.  His shot went in off the bar, his hat-trick goal.  The final score was 5-0 to Rector Drew.  The players shook hands at the end of the game and gave Saltney ‘three cheers’.  Mr Prytherch was pleased with our performance.

On Thursday 28th September we went to a rugby tournament at British Steel Sports Club in Shotton.  Squad members were: Henry , Jonathan , Marc , Scott , Nathan , Leionnie , Daniel , Neil , Luciano  and Lewis .

It was a cold and cloudy afternoon and nine teams has turned up to compete.  Many of the Mums complained that they were too cold and would rather be at home watching TV and drinking tea!

In our first game we played Saltney Ferry and won 6 tries to 1.  In our second game we lost 5 – 3 to Broughton which meant we finished 2nd in our group and went on to play other teams who had finished as runners up in their groups.  By this time the Mums were looking for wood to start a fire!

In the ‘runner up’ group we played Northop Hall and beat them 4-1. In our last game we played Custom House and we won 7-1.  We won our group and lost only 1 game during the afternoon and were really pleased about that.

A good afternoon for us all!

A big well done and thank you to the 6 children who turned up last week.  It was an excellent session.  You listened well, worked really hard and the standard of rugby was very good.  Let’s hope a few more turn out for the next coaching sessions.  A hugh thank you to Gordon Roger for giving up his time to coach the children.

Autumn Clubs

Clubs will be run a Wednesday night and will ALWAYS run regardless of the weather.

Please do not ring school to ask if clubs are running if it is raining.  There is nobody in the office Wednesday afternoon as Mrs Andrews is teaching and therefore you will only be greeted by answer phone I’m afraid!  If it is too wet to run outdoor clubs we will entertain the children in school until it is time for them to be collected.

Clubs will begin week beginning 24th September 07

Please see lunchtime / after school pages for clubs information
